1971, 1972, and 1973 RSHS Basketball Teams

1970-71 Men’s Basketball Team

The Rock Springs Tiger basketball teams of 1971, 72, and 73 were three-peat champions before three-peats were a thing.

In March of 1971, the team, driven by Head Coach Spiro Varras and assistant coach Jack Norris, compiled a record of 24 wins with only 1 loss.  The team also earned the Class AA state championship by defeating Sheridan 75-60 in the state title game. The end of the 1971 season featured the Super tournament played at Western Wyoming Community College and matching the 4 state champions from each class.  The tigers went on to win that tournament as well, defeating the rival Green River Wolves leaving no doubt the Rock Springs Tigers were the undisputed best basketball team in Wyoming.  Members of this team were Terry Marietta, David Garetto, Gary Jackson, Richard Bozner, Kevin Crouch, Jack Adams, Art Page, Mike Clark, John Pivic, Brady West, Duane Robinson, George Muniz, and Ron Tyler as manager.  The team was honored with three all-state selections in Jack Adams, Terry Marietta, and Duane Robinson and Coach Spiro Varras was named as Coach of the Year.
